The Merchant of Venice had the honour of celebrating the launch of Renaissance in the prestigious setting of the Residence of the Italian Ambassador in London, during an evening dedicated to the rich and fascinating dialogue between history, art and perfumery.
Hosted by Ambassador Fabio Cassese, the event brought together guests for an immersive journey into the world of Venetian Renaissance scents, exploring the cultural roots and artistic vision behind the latest creation of The Merchant of Venice.
The evening opened with Marco Vidal, CEO of The Merchant of Venice, who welcomed Calice Becker, Givaudan VP Perfumer and the celebrated nose behind Renaissance, to the stage. Together with renowned author and historian Frederick Lauritzen, who moderated the conversation, they guided guests through the history of perfume during the Venetian Renaissance and the enduring legacy of Venice as a crossroads of cultures, precious raw materials and artistic excellence.
Their discussion revealed the many inspirations that shaped Renaissance: the Serenissima’s trade routes, the arrival of precious spices and Eastern influences, the connection between fragrance and the arts, and the role played by remarkable women such as Lucrezia Borgia, Caterina Sforza and Caterina de’ Medici in the history of perfumery.
Created by Calice Becker for The Merchant of Venice, Renaissance translates the ideals of harmony, balance and timeless beauty into an olfactory composition of great elegance. More than a fragrance, it is a tribute to an era in which art, knowledge and individuality became a universal language.
The event was also enriched by immersive sensory experiences, allowing guests to engage directly with the world of Renaissance scents and to discover the cultural depth behind the creation.
It was a truly wonderful occasion for The Merchant of Venice: a moment of cultural exchange, artistic storytelling and international dialogue, perfectly reflecting the spirit of the brand and its deep connection with Venetian heritage.
Our sincere thanks go to Kenneth Green and the entire KGA team for their fundamental support in making this event possible, to Calice Becker for creating a masterpiece such as Renaissance, and to Ambassador Fabio Cassese for generously hosting this memorable celebration in such an exceptional setting.
