In the heart of Venice — where canals whisper their secrets and quiet corners hide their shadows — an event is taking shape that blends literature, mystery, and the refined elegance of the lagoon city: Venice Noir, scheduled from 14 to 16 November 2025.
More than a literary festival, Venice Noir is an immersive experience that reveals how Venice itself becomes the perfect stage for noir, crime, and thriller stories. Over three days of talks, panels, and presentations, the city transforms into an open stage for conversations on genre, creativity, and setting, featuring some of the most renowned voices in noir literature.
The event is promoted by Libreria Studium and the Cultural Association SUGARPULP, united by the aim of attracting an audience interested not only in classic crime fiction, but in noir as a lens through which to interpret contemporary life — its urban complexity, relationships, and territories.
Among the festival’s main guests are some of the most celebrated names in the field:
- Ian Rankin, the master of British crime, offering a rare opportunity to explore the narrative models and atmospheres of the UK tradition.
- Carlo Lucarelli and Giancarlo De Cataldo, two of Italy’s leading voices, renowned for weaving together news, history, and noir fiction.
- Erin Kelly, Barbara Baraldi, Paola Barbato, Lisa Hilton, and many more authors who embody the contemporary landscape of the genre, across both British and Italian scenes.
- Writers such as Massimo Carlotto, D.V. Bishop, and Philipp Gwynne Jones enrich the programme with compelling stories, fascinating themes, and engaging conversations with the audience.
This international blend — bringing together authors from different languages and cultural contexts — reflects the festival’s ambition to speak to both local and global readers, affirming noir as a universal language of storytelling.
