The Merchant of Venice opens an International and Olfactory Bookshop in San Marco

The historic Libreria Studium in San Marco (Venice), has been taken over by The Merchant of Venice and completely renovated following a new concept. The relaunch of the offering strengthens its vocation as an international bookshop and it is enhanced by a unique olfactory library.

Studium is spread on two floors and is located between St Mark's Basilica and the famous Bridge of Sighs, in the heart of the most famous and monumental area of Venice.

Studium offers selection of over 10,000 volumes with a special focus on Venice and its history but also including a wide selection of fiction and children's books, art catalogues and especially titles in English, French, German and Spanish. Besides, we can find a section dedicated to the imaginary traveller Corto Maltese drawn by the great Venetian master of comics Hugo Pratt. In addition, the Bookshop offers high quality stationery exclusively developed for Studium and produced by Cartiera Artigianale Toscolano with themes related to Venice and in particular to the Marciana area.

On the second floor a lounge area welcomes Italian and international fiction, before a highly original olfactory room featuring a Perfume Section with several texts on the subject as well as a large Perfume Organ with over 100 raw materials catalogued as an ancient herbarium, also used for olfactory courses.

The Merchant of Venice's retail team conceived and curated the installation project, inspired by London's historic bookshops with influences that recall the iconic elements of the brand and of Venice.

Marco Vidal, owner of Studium and The Merchant of Venice says:

The entire new Studium celebrates books and culture, and does so in a welcoming style, offering reading and reference spaces on the second floor as well as courses, presentations and meetings: a bookshop in the heart of Venice, in St. Mark's.

The aim of the Studium bookshop is to promote culture in Venice and for the cultured traveller, who will find content, a warm welcome and stimulating interaction through courses, reading groups, presentations and a knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff.
It is also a point of sale of the future, because it is experiential and not at all replaceable with online sales. It celebrates books as well as the study of perfumery, our family brand speciality.

We promote the Venetian Art of Perfumery through the study of historical sources and olfactory training with courses at different levels. Studium is the perfect place to share the philosophy that animates The Merchant of Venice, that of being a brand of cultural value.
